As many of you know I have been involved with United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) since February of this year. Through our hard work and dedication we persuaded the University of Texas at Austin (UT) to sign on to the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) thereby ensuring that an independent labor monitoring organization (the WRC) can create reports on the condition of the factories that make UT apparel. This is a big win for workers' rights because UT in the number one collegiate apparel seller in the United States!
I recently went on a delegation to witness first hand the lives of sweatshop workers who are organizing in Cuidad Acuña, Mexico to ensure that their rights are being respected.
The WRC campaign taught me the practical aspects of organizing and activist work. The delegation to Cuidad Acuña gave me the motivation and conviction to continue to pursue projects that make our little rock an amazing place to live for all of its creatures.
It is now time for me to expand my education and attend USAS' boot camp to develop my organizing skills. Will you please help pay the travel costs to send me there this November 3rd and 4th? I am attempting to collect $500 for the plane ticket to Los Angeles, CA plus the return trip. Thank you so much for the support!
